To My Grandma Chia… this 2nd of November 2007

always the one to come to- for the best chisme

always the place to go- for a steaming cup of cafe

always the epicenter and queen of our existence..

that was chia. that is chia.

always laughing or cracking a joke

noticing how the novelas provoked- her.

to the point where she was moody all day – because Ruby was playing with Alejandro’s head..

she was outspoken and vulgar with

bible and rosario in hand –

and everyone knew her as the mera mera- the ultimate

devout, watch-out,

hispanic with extra mexi-slang

Guadalupana

always faithful to her God and her misunderstood husband

always partial to the boys

always puffing a cigarette- even when it started to kill her

always loving and happy to see you

she was all that is Lopez in me

she is all that’s a fighter and lover in me

always-never could anyone else be- her

my abuela Lucia- better known as Grandma Chia- on North Super.
