January 16 & 17: Robin Reagler on Revision

In interviews, famous writers often say they spend 90% of their writing time doing revisions. That said, we have all taken courses on how to write but seldom are we taught how to revise. This course will focus on that 90% activity. We will learn and apply specific revision techniques to our own writing. Bring two poems you want to revise, one for each day.

Reading Matters! Your poetry on the page or on stage can sound better, be heard better, be understood better depending on how you read/perform your words. A  team of there experienced readers will work with you to point out new possibilities in your poetry and demonstrate alternative ways to read the words you’ve written for page or stage.

Robin Reagler is the author of INTO THE THE (Backlash Books, forthcoming 2021), TEETH & TEETH (Headmistress Press, 2018), winner of the Charlotte Mew Prize selected by Natalie Diaz, and DEAR RED AIRPLANE (Seven Kitchens Press, 2011, 2018). She was the Executive Director of Writers in the Schools (WITS) in Houston 1998-2020.

Gabrielle Langley has been featured in the Huffington Post and the Houston Chronicle as one of Houston’s important emerging poets. With a background in theatrical arts and public speaking, she is a lyrical poet known for her elegant stage presence and graceful reading style. A winner of the coveted Lorene Pouncey Award and Houston Poetry Fest’s Jury Prize, her debut collection of poetry, “Azaleas on Fire,” was released in 2019. Ms. Langley was also a spearhead and co-editor for Red Sky: Poetry on the global epidemic of violence against women. Additional information about this poet can be found at

Chibbi is a Mexican-born, Texas-raised queer poet and actor, the founder of Laredo BorderSlam, a founding member of Write About Now, Executive Director and co-host of the Words and Sh*t virtual talk show and podcast, and 2-time San Antonio Slam Champion. He has published 2 books and was the co-editor of the anthology Contra: Texas Poets Speak Out (Flowersong Press, 2020). He’s toured across the country performing his work and is published in Defunkt, OutSmart, The Latino Book Review Magazine 2020, and featured online on We Are Mitu, George Takei, SlamFind, Poetry Slam Inc, Button Poetry, and Write About Now.

Fran Sanders is the Founder and Director of Pubic Poetry. She has over 25 years experience working with non-profit organizations in visual arts, music and dance. Prior to establishing Public Poetry in 2010, she volunteered for sixteen years with Taping for the Blind/Sight Into Sound where she produced and presented 1400 half hour poetry programs, and hosted sixty local and visiting poets reading their own poetry for broadcast on the radio.
